Greater Toledo Area, Toledo, Toledo Guide, Toledo Real Estate

Moving to a new area is fun and exhilarating! Once the dust settles a bit, you’re ready to find your bearings and explore. Where to start? Here are the top things to do in Toledo:

1. Toledo Zoo.

The Toledo Zoo is the city’s main attraction. From elephants to eagles to polar bears, it’s one of the world’s most complete zoos. The newly-built aquarium is open, housing sharks, sea turtles, and tons of fish! On top of that, there are year round events held here, including summer concert series. The Lights Before Christmas is one of the popular attractions, when the zoo is fully lit in holiday style and you drive through the festive displays. It is not to be missed!

2. Toledo Museum of Art.

Toledo is known as the Glass City due to its long history of glass production. The world class Toledo Museum of Art offers a special focus on glass, with daily glass blowing demonstrations. It houses fabulous collections of Old Master paintings, Asian, and African art. A large variety of art classes are also available. For families, there are children’s activities in the Family Center and guided tours on the first Sunday of the month.

3. Mud Hens baseball.

The Toledo Mud Hens are a minor league baseball team that are affiliated with the Detroit Tigers. They play in the International League at Fifth Third Field, one of the best minor league parks in the country.  All weekend games have fireworks, and kids run the bases on Sundays after the game. The Hens are active in local charities, and host baseball camp and scout sleepovers during the season. Come see the Mud Hens play, and finish with a hot dog at nearby Tony Packo’s, made famous by Jamie Farr on the TV show M*A*S*H.

4. Toledo Metroparks.

If you enjoy flora and fauna, the metropark system must be on your checklist. With a total of 12 parks, opportunities abound for bird watching, hiking, and kayaking; in the winter, ski cross country across icy terrain. There are rare plant species and plentiful wildlife in the parks. Metroparks offer classes for every age group, along with Noon Tunes on the Lawn, Nature Walks, and overnight camp. There is something for everyone at the Metroparks!

5. The Docks, downtown Toledo.

Sit riverside and enjoy fresh, sumptuous seafood or a spicy Italian dish while enjoying stunning views of the city. Sound fun? A social hotspot, The Docks offers a wide array of cuisine with outdoor seating. It’s located east of downtown in the International Park and is the place to mingle with your neighbors and meet new friends. Come relax at The Docks!
